Environment

Breckenridge is entrusted with the stewardship of lands in the beautiful Rocky Mountains. We support, promote, and engage in resource conservation, renewable energy use, recycling and other forms of waste reduction, wildlife habitat preservation, and environmental education. Please help us by sharing in this responsibility:

• Pack it in, Pack it out
• Carpool and use public transportation
• Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle
• Share the mountain; respect all posted closures

Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency:
Breckenridge offsets 100% of its electricity use with wind energy credits and has improved the electrical efficiency of snowmaking, lifts, and facilities. To learn more about Breckenridge's Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency initiatives click here.

Fish and Wildlife Habitat Protection:
The BreckConnect Gondola was built in a manner to minimize impacts during construction, the Breckenridge Snowmaking department installed a fish ladder to improve fish habitat in Maggie Pond, and Breckenridge is developing a Mountain Drainage Plan to proactively improve water quality and prevent sediment loading from run-off. Recycling and Waste Reduction:
Breckenridge recycles over 350 tons per year and gives out reusable coffee mugs to community members at the beginning of each ski season. To learn more about Breckenridge's Recyling and Waste Reduction initiatives click here.

National Forest and Pine Beetle:
Vail Resorts (Breckenridge’s parent company) has partnered with the National Forest Foundation to raise money for on-the-ground conservation projects in the national forests where Vail Resorts operations are located.

Mountain pine beetles are killing lodgepole pine trees around Breckenridge and Summit County. Breckenridge Ski Resort has worked with the Town of Breckenridge to control the spread of the mountain pine beetle within the Town’s boundary. Keep Winter Cool:
Breckenridge is a proud partner with the Natural Resources Defense Council and the National Ski Areas Association in the Keep Winter Cool Campaign – an effort to educate the public about the potential dangers of global warming and what can be done to help prevent it.  To learn more visit http://www.keepwintercool.org/
