Safety Information
At Breckenridge, safety comes first for all of our guests and employees. The resort has put in place programs that promote the safety of everyone on the mountain as well as educate our guests on the importance of mountain safety.
Mountain Safety Tips
High Altitude: If you live at a lower elevation, take it easy at first. Altitude reduces the amount of oxygen available, so you will tire more easily. Plan short trips until you are acclimated and drink plenty of water.
Sun Protection: At 10,000 ft. (3048 m), exposure to the sun can be 40% greater than at sea level. We recommend sunscreen SPF 15 or greater and UV eye protection.
Water: Rapidly changing weather patterns and afternoon thunderstorms are common. Seek shelter and be advised that chairlifts may close temporarily.
Lightening: Be advised to avoid ridge tops, chairlift houses and towers, power lines, lone trees and sign posts during lightening storms.
Multi-use trails: Horses, hikers, motorized vehicles and mountain bikers may be encountered at any time on a number of our summer trails. Mountain bikers should always yield the right of way to hikers and other non-bikers using the trails.
National Off-Road Bicycle Association Code:
- Yield the right of way to other non-motorized trail users
- Use caution when overtaking another, and make your presence known well in advance
- Maintain control of your speed at all times
- Stay on designated trails
- Do not disturb wildlife
- Do not litter
- Respect public and private property
- Always be self-sufficient
- Do not travel solo in remote areas
- Observe the practice of minimum impact bicycling
